‘Come Together’ music series takes off in Town of Clinton
By Dominic Serrao

It’s Friday night and vibrant signs in psychedelic colors start popping up all over Clinton along street corners. All roads lead to Main Street.

The “Come Together” music series, featuring diverse genres from jazz and folk to independent pop, is back again. And it’s bigger and better than last year, say organizers. Once again, the music is free

Organized by the Clinton Guild, the summer-long weekly series provides an opportunity and venue to talented up-and-coming local musicians. The series is being held from 7 to 9 p.m. every Friday through Aug. 28. Additionally, there will be special music sessions on Sunday, July 12; Sunday, Aug. 2 (following the Rubber Ducky race); and the “Come Together Grand Finale” on Sunday, Aug. 30. More than 25 musicians and bands of varying music styles will be performing at three live sidewalk venues – across from Dora’s restaurant on Main Street, on the corner of Main and Lower Center streets, and on the corner of Leigh and Center streets. The shops in town stay open late and some stores provide specials during the music, each week.

Anne Rossi, one of the organizers and a member of the Clinton Guild said, “The town comes alive every Friday night. The response from the audience has been truly tremendous and very appreciative.”

According to soulful independent-pop singer Ashley Lennon Thomas of Lebanon, the setting by the Red Mill and the river is perfect for making music on a summer evening. She adds, “It’s wonderful to have the community support and encourage artists.”

Singer-songwriter Brian Colburn, whose music has cross-genre appeal, echoes the sentiment. “It’s a grand setting for local artists to share their music with the community. It’s not often that a solo artist can share his music with such a vast age range.”

The casual atmosphere of the accessible setting enables parents to provide their young children with their first exposure to live music.

As she gets ready to sing her next song outside the Addicted Jeans Store this past Friday, Lennon Thomas said, “Everyone should come out for ‘Come Together’ in celebration of what the community has to offer. You just might hear your next favorite song from one of us local musicians.”
